1 Introduction

The purpose of this document is to list the folios of the Syriac Palimpsest.

2 The Folios in the Data Set

This data set consists of images of all folios in the Syriac Palimpsest. It contains an eleventh-century liturgical text that is very important for the study of the hymns of Byzantine and Melkite Christianity and has an older and very significant undertext. The undertext dates back to approximately the ninth century, and contains Syriac translations of Greek medical texts.

There are 230 folios in the manuscript.

3 The Foliation of the Data Set

The bound palimpsested manuscript has been foliated. This data set presents images of the manuscript in a disbound state. Hence, when the manuscripts folio are not singletons, they are presented as conjoint folios. Thus it is usually the case that a single image of the will reference two folio numbers.

In file names, the lower folio is presented first, as shown in these examples:

• 001r-004v
• 080v-083r
• 223v-226r
• 224r-0000

Each folio number written given with three characters, filling in single- and two-digit numbers with one or two zero '0' characters to the left to make all folio numbers the same width. In those cases where the unber text is on a single folio, that is having no conjoin, the single folio is presented first, and a placeholder of four zero characters, '0000', is put in the second position.

4 List of folios

The following list tables the each folio quire, the first folio number and side, and, if it exists, the second folio number and side. Note that there is no folio 210.
